There is a groundswell of interest in mountain biking and outdoor activities and Makin Trax foresees a bright future for the industry and the need for professionally built tracks.

With an ever-growing awareness and understanding of all things environmental, there's a great opportunity for Makin Trax to apply its expertise to many of the degraded and eroded tracks that councils and government bodies around the country struggle to manage.

We created a grand vision for a dynamic world-class facility and legacy for the ACT community now known as the Centenary Trail - a 300km+ multi-use trail network to circumnavigate the ACT to celebrate the Centenary of Canberra in 2013. Makin Trax was instrumental in the evolution of this 'Centenary Trail' concept to its current project design study phase by initiating and conducting informal consultations with the ACT Chief Minister and senior members of the ACT government (using our Finalist status in the 2009 Telstra awards as a spring board).

In the last twelve months Makin Trax has commenced donating its services (time and
equipment) on a quarterly basis to community projects without charge. Some examples are:

  • building a 'rock garden' for the Yarralumla Montessori School. This involved organising and
building a garden consisting of 6 huge boulders for the children to climb on. Makin Trax donated time and an excavator to the School
  • using Makin Trax work at Stromlo Forest Park to assist Year 12 Maths students from
Radford College to relate maths to real world applications. For example the students came
onsite to Stromlo Forest Park and learned in a tutorial format about sustainability, what goes
into building a sustainable track and how maths, specifically trigonometry, is used in day to
    day track building
  • organising and running volunteer days in track maintenance at Stromlo Forest Park
a planned donation for 2010 is providing 20 days 'at cost' building service for the local mtn bike club to rebuild the downhill track at Bluerange that was lost in the January 2003 bush fires
  • Makin Trax is heading up an initiative to collectively provide quarterly charitable donations
(of time and labour) with local businesses
